Hi,
while you may be aware that our friends Brent and Thierry will
also present QoS at the LinuxDays Networking Tutorial in a
couple of weeks, you may not be that there's a number of articles
on that subject in the 02/05 edition of the german Linux Magazin.
So if that's a subject for you, you may want to look into this.
Maybe one or the other "sister magazines" (in english, french,
whatever) have translations...
Greetings, Eric
Hi,
I received an advertisement from P&T (got my ADSL connection there)
for their new (?) clearviewonline.lu service, for which a demo is
supposed to be available. The link indicated is as follows:
https://www.clearviewonline.lu/cgi-bin/clrview/clrview/jsp/accueil.jsp
Nice start: the certificate is expired.
Nice continuation 1: Requirements IE 5.0+, NN 6.0+, Acrobar Reader.
I'd expect no dependence on any particular webbrowser...
Nice continuation 2: In Konqueror, their "Demonstration" link doesn't
have any effect.
So I retried in Firefox, there I get a popup explaining I should enter
demo/demo for authentication to get a demo.
Nice continuation 3: afer entering demo/demo as indicated, I only get
an error message - Une erreur de traitement est survenue, veuillez
nous en excuser.
And I'd have thought they'd learned the lesson, what with CCP Connect
working on any platform now...
Greets Eric
Hi,
during the LinuxDays 2005 (25th and 26th of January), there will
be a "burnstation" at the Expo, where for a small fee (for empty
CDs) resp. for free (if you bring your own CDs) people can have
some Free Software burned to CD.
The current list of stuff to be made available is:
- Debian (stable/unstable/i386/others)
- Mandrake (free version)
- Fedora Core 3
- The Open CD
- Knoppix
- LinuxBiz Knoppix
- OpenOffice (Mac, Windows, Linux)
If you have specific wishes (projects, CD images) that you
wish included, please tell me so (incl. URL). It should be
obvious that we can only include stuff that's explicitly
authorized for distribution (i.e. Linux Distros including
proprietary stuff are out).
Greetings, Eric

Hello all!
I just wanted to now: How do you use Linux?
Do you have it installed on your personal computer?
Wich distribution do you use? Why?
Have you tried other distributions?
And perhaps: how long do you use Linux?
thank you.
pierre
My answer:
I have a dual boot XP-Mandrake 10.1 on my PC. Just bought the Mandrake
10.1 DVD, a few months ago. and i'm very satisfied with it.
I'm on Linux for about 2.5 years. and i never used an other distribution
than mandrake. And i don't plan to use a other in a close future.
Hi,
thanks to you all for the answers. It seems that I am the only one using Mandrake. 2.5 years ago, when I was about to install Linux, I read many articles about the distributions. An most of the articles said (briefly resumed), Suse was the most widely used in Germany. Mandrake in France, and Red Hat (new name : fedora? ) in USA. And all 3 distributions are very good. Debian was not so easy to install for beginners but the most powerfull.
With Suse, you get a good service for your money: about 100euro for a pack, and 2DVD and CD-roms plenty of sotware. But (is that true) if you want to install other software (that is not include in the pack), it will be very difficult? And that there are not very much Suse-software developped and proposed for download, I mean Software that was developped by an amateur not directly working for Suse ?
I am asking, because Mandrake or even Fedora, Debian, I find lots of software on the net for download.
So, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!
pierre pedro

Happy New Year for 2005
Last year we fought against software patents.
We have put a lot of words in many ears and slowly but
surely we are going to an open world with Free Software.
This year we will continue.
We have already reached that the council vote will be done
during the Luxembourgish presidency. Now we have to play that
card to our best.
There are some projects under way to get more support from the state for
Free Software.
More and more schools are interested in the LLL project.
More and more GNU/Linux courses are offered by organisations.
2005 will be the year of the Free Software !
