Hi,
did I miss the news, or did Debian Sarge go stable?
AFAIK, it was supposed to go stable (from testing) quite soon,
but I haven't seen any news about this - now I'm checking out
some Debian documentation, and here [1] I see Sarge as stable,
the testing distribution is called Etch (never heard that name
before), and unstable still is Sid.
On the other hand, the main page of www.debian.org still mentions
3.0 / woody as stable, as does http://www.debian.org/releases/
Oh well, I guess they're deep into preparing that update...
still it's somewhat confusing.

Subject: The Open Source Observatory launches the Open Source Software
Inventory

From: Aisola, Kamini <Kamini.Aisola(a)be.unisys.com>

The European Commission's Open Source Observatory (OSO)
http://europa.eu.int/ida/oso/ is a clearinghouse of information related
to free / libre / open source software in the public sector, and is
intended to promote and spread the use of best practices in Europe. The
OSO is part of the EC's IDA (Interchange of Data between
Administrations) programme, and ultimately aims to provide a
comprehensive overview of free/libre/open source software policies and
activities in the public sector, especially in current and future EU
Member States.
The OSO recently launched the *OSO Software Inventory, *a catalogue of
replicable free / libre / open source software solutions for
eGovernment. The aim of the Inventory is to classify and briefly
describe these solutions, to provide contact information for the
software solution developers, to permit providers and potential users of
eGovernment solutions to specify and search for relevant applications,
and to thereby allow public administrations to estimate if possible
whether and how these solutions might be replicable.
We invite you to submit any free / libre / open source software projects
that your organisation or team has produced, for inclusion in the OSO
Software Inventory. Submission of a software project is easy you only
need to fill in an online form
(http://europa.eu.int/ida/en/chapter/5649) with a few questions
regarding the nature of the software. Within a few days thereafter, you
will see your software description online on the Inventory website.
We would also appreciate it if you could pass this email on to any
software projects you might know of, or post this message to any free or
open source software mailing lists.
If you have any questions regarding the OSO or the OSO Software
Inventory, please feel free to send an email to: gposs(a)cec.eu.int

IBM is a member of pro-patent organisation EICTA. According to sources it has
also individually lobbied political parties to push through the directive.

A spokesman for Germany's ruling Social Democratic (SPD) party, which spoke
out against the directive in October, told silicon.com sister site ZDNet UK
that IBM has put pressure on it both individually and through EICTA to
support the directive. In particular, Fritz Teufel, the head of IBM's patent
department in Germany, has been involved in pushing through the software
patent directive, according to Mueller and the FFII, which has a Web page
dedicated to Teufel.

"We've been told all along by the EPO (European Patent Office), the UKPO and
the DTI that 'software patents do not hurt open source software', but here is
the world's largest software patent holder openly admitting that they do,"
said Tortolano. "IBM's exclusion of small businesses perfectly highlights
that software patent portfolios have enabled multinational corporations to
become legislators of who can and cannot develop computer software."

Not really, if Firefox can't resolve a link one of the things it does
is querying google.com and displaying the first hit,
so all of you html-meta tag specialists why, by googling.com, for:
http do I get microsoft as a NON-SPONSORED first link?
hmmm,

Hi,
I tested it yesterday evening and got the same error message,
not only with Linux, but also in Win2000+Firexfox1.0
So one thing is sure: it's NOT a Linux problem, it MAY BE a Firefox problem.
But if they say it works in NN6.0+
then it should also work in NN7.x
and NN7.2 is totally compatible with Mozilla 1.7.3 and with Firefox1.0,
isn't it?
So it's strange not to work with Firexfox...?
I did not test it with IEx.x because I object to use that insecure
browser whenever not necessary.
I did not test with Mozilla because I deinstalled Mozilla since I use
Firefox+Thunderbird.
Maybe the demo itself had a technical problem yesterday ?
I will test it once more with Firefox and then with Opera, too.
