Ok, guys, go for VO or EPT... They clearly don't
allow use of any OS
Again, EPT is *not* the reference. Their FAQ says that I need a Pentium
to use their DSL. My SparcStation has a microSparc! I can not believe
that you want to impress me be comparing Alternet to the worst ISPs on
this issue. Compare Alternet to the best one, then I may be impressed.
Coditel officially supports *any* OS, including UNIX/Linux and the Mac:
http://www.coditel.lu/english/isp/ispfaq.htm#Q14
Question 14 from the FAQ:
<quote>
Q : My computer is a Mac or uses Linux or Unix. Can I be connected to
SpeedClick?
A: Of course. The only necessary conditions for being connected with
SpeedClick via a cable modem are to have a computer which has a network
card or USB port, and to be sure that the TCP/IP battery is installed.

For me, the role of an ISP is NOT to debug your
specific ppp stack.
Most helldesks start to search on *your* side for the problem. They do
not do this to debug you, but to terminate the issue by saying: It's not
our problem.
If you would have read the past posts you would see how the Deutsche
Telekom operates on this issue. Everything already has been discussed.
Please read the beginning of thread.
I have asked you a precise question, you seem not want to answer me:
<question>
Do they believe you that you are clued and that you have configured
everything correctly? Do they immediatley start to investigate on their
side?
</question>
If you really want to wet my appetite for a new provider, why do you not
answer the questions that matter to me? What they use, what car they
drive, what they eat is pretty irrelevant to me.
They don't support any OS.
Good. Now a real answer at least. All FreeBSD users, Debian users and so
on should forget this ISP. They only support Windows, SuSE and RedHat I
suppose.
They provide IP service on ADSL, not a
help-desk about all computer-related problems.
Read the thread you missed. This already has been discussed. Again the
question:
<question>
Do they believe you that you are clued and that you have configured
everything correctly? Do they immediatley start to investigate on their
side?
</question>

That's what they do.
I am beginning to get confused. Now they support any OS with a TCP/IP
stack as Coditel does?
They don't force you using whatever. But if you
choose Linux (I don't
know for other OSes), they are still following you and giving
appropriate advice. That's enough for me.
Thanks for the answer I waited for so long. Now, it slowly seems to make
sense.
I don't understand why I have to receive so many
e-mails about such a
small news. If you want more details, visit their web site
(
http://www.alternet.lu).
I visted their side. There is no information about OS support. No FAQ,
nothing. I even read their PDF. I hoped you had better information, but
communcation over E-Mail can be time-consuming before relevant questions
finally get answered.
