This might be true...
except when the alternative ISP officially refuse to acknowledge Linux
and other OSes
except when other ISP insist that you "update your windows drivers"
after you've explained to them that you're using Linux, and then respond
by saying that "if you're using a router we can't help you"
except when other ISP send you their bill in a MSWD document... after
having used RTF for 4 months - and say it's their new software and
that's the way things are... (oh, and they included URLs to some MSWD
reader under windows)
If the official policy of the company, at least you can expect some
level of support and can shout at them if they say soimething like "use
windows"...
I *fully* agree. This also remembers me my T-Online days. I always used
Linux with PPPoE. The day I couldn't connect anymore, I *tried* to
install the official T-Online software on my Windows partition because
the helpdesk said they would not support Linux. But the official
software refused to run on my hardware configuration. And it was a
problem on their side, because the modem's light was red. But they
refused to help if you don't run Windows even if it is clear that the
problem lies on their side.
