What do you mean by 'official Linux support'? Does this include helpdesk
support? If yes, what distributions do the helpdesk people know?
From a technical point of view, I prefer ISPs who support official
standards like TCP/IP, DHCP (and PPPoE for DSL) rather than those who
support specific operating systems. I run a SparcClassic with NetBSD as
a firewall and the last thing I want to hear is: We only support Windows
and Linux ;-) And do not forget: Many people use hardware
firewall/NAT/routers these days, which implement DHCP/PPPoE directly.
This not the same as with homebanking: network protocols are very well
defined today, there is no need for support for specific operating systems.
So the *real* question is: Are the helpdesk people trained for Linux?
utilisent OpenOffice
These are company internals. As long as they write *plain-text* E-Mails
to communicate with their customers, instead of sending attached Word or
OO files (or at least use standards like HTML or PDF).
This is hidden advertising. They may provide a good service, but I see
no good reason for Linux users to switch to this ISP because of
ethnical/philosophical/opensource policical reasons.
By the way, I used
www.netcraft.com to identify the operating system
behind
www.alternet.lu:
http://www.alternet.lu was running Alternet on Windows 2000 when last
