Hi,
Just a quick question/suggestion: Why Kubuntu? Wouldn't it be better
to use Linux Mint (there is a KDE edition, I think) or any other
derivative which brings all the multimedia stuff (flash, codecs, etc)
preinstalled thus offering a complete out-of-the-box experience?
http://linuxmint.com/ Depends on who gives the course. Alain and myself use
Kubuntu and it
will be easier for us to explain what we use.
In addition, those systems (be it Ubuntu or
Kubuntu or the regular
Mint editions) are rather resource-hungry. Being a Green Party event,
wouldn't it be worthy mentioning other distros which focuss either on
energy-saving, such as WattOS:
http://www.planetwatt.com/ Good point but again we want to show the most common
cases. I will have
to try this distribution sometime.
But anyway it's good to mention.
as well as distros focussing on old computers (so
that people can
still use them rather than purchasing new ones)?
http://distrowatch.com/search.php?ostype=All&category=Old+Computers&…
Good point too.
Furthermore, in addition to the operating system,
I guess one should
say a word or two about useful free applications such as
Libre/Openoffice, the Gimp, Inkscape, KDEnlive, etc.
We have only 2 hours and we will see what we may inclyde.
Anyway I will update the wiki with this precious contibution.
Thanks
Just my 2-3 cents...
Kind regards,
Miro

Hello,
In the second half of February we would like to organize a Linux
"Schnupperkuer".
It would be held in Oetrange on an evening (2hrs) and would be Organized
by the
Green party of Contern (so room, flyers, cartering ... are not our
concern)
I prepared a wiki-page for the event:
https://www.lilux.lu/lilux/mediawiki/index.php/LinuxBasics2013
Any help would be greatly appreciated as there are some parts that I may
have forgotten
and some items I still did not solve myslef (put music on iPhone)
Best regards
Thierry
