a couple of questions:
Do I need the splitter, and what is it for?
To separate the frequencies used by the ADSL signal from frequencies
used by the ISDN signal. ISDN uses low frequencies, ADSL highest ones.
Aside this, it will also give you two connectors (one for your genuine
ISDN device and one for the ADSL modem) where you should have natively
only one...
Are long connection cables a problem ?
No. ADSL is anyway travelling since the phone central, so some more tens
of meters shouldn't hurt.
Is the connection using the eth0 preferable? and why ?
Preferable than USB, yes, because PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) is a
published standard, where ADSL modems used through USB is less or not
standardised yet. Also, Ethernet allows you to install the ADSL modem
somewhere on your Ethernet LAN, not mandatorily aside the hosts that
will implement the PPP stack.
Once properly wired it should configure using Yast out
of the box
(right?). But should it be configured using the
network devices -> Modem
or -> DSL ?
