Work Experience
May 2000 - March 2002 GAX S.A.

GAX S.A. was a web services company. My main work there consisted in writing server-side applications as needed for GAX's clients' websites. Furthermore, I managed anything concerning IT as the need arose, from user support to network configuration and hardware.

My work at GAX has honed my skills particularly in Perl programming, Unix and Windows system and network administration, Java programming.

I have completed projects (incomplete list) for GiSMo (Perl/MySQL), Clearstream (Perl/Oracle), SES (MS VC++, VB, ActiveX, Windows Media, JavaScript).

March 2002 - June 2006 CRP Henri Tudor / SANTEC

My duties at SANTEC included systems and network administration for HealthNet as well as development of applications for the healthcare sector. The services handled include SMTP, DNS, HTTP, FTP, POP3, IMAP, LDAP, firewall and IDS systems, VPNs, network surveillance, statistics, database systems etc.

Involved systems included Cisco routers, HP/UX, Solaris and Linux servers, Checkpoint Firewall-1, Veritas NetBackup etc., on a variety of platforms (x86, PA/RISC, (Ultra)SPARC, Alpha).

During my time at SANTEC, I have followed courses in:

and given courses about IT Systems resp. Security at the Faculté de Médecine in Nancy.

I also participated in the organization of LinuxDays Luxembourg in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006 as well as other events around Free and Open Source Software. I also became member of the committee of the FOSS innovation platform of the CRP Henri Tudor.

June 2006 - January 2014 EPT

My duties at EPT involved the continuation of the HealthNet Luxembourg project, on which I already worked at the CRP Henri Tudor.
Also, I got to take part in the other duties of Internet Services, including DNS, email platform, webhosting platform, IPTV etc.

During my time at EPT, I have followed courses in:

  • Asterisk for Beginners by Stefan Wintermeyer at LinuxKongress 2006.
  • Using Xen to partition your system by Kurt Garloff at LinuxKongress 2006.
  • A 5-day course in RedHat Linux (RHEL5) system administration, which allowed me to update some facets of my skills.
  • Furthermore, I got to follow a week's course on Spring Framework (java), ITIL Foundation, SCRUM Master etc.
I also got to attend the hack.lu 2006 and the LinuxDays 2007 and 2008.

February 2014 - now CCSS

As of february 2014, I've started working at the Centre Commun de la Sécurité Sociale. My duties involve Linux and Mainframe platforms.

As for courses, I followed the usual INAP courses to become a state servant, miscellaneous internal courses, Mainframe course etc.

Outside of Work
LiLux, since 2000

Off duty, I have given some talks and courses for LiLux, about miscellaneous aspects of the GNU/Linux operating system.

I have been a committee member from about 2002, where my main task was to coordinate activities and events. With family and other interests taking over, I reduced my activity to a simple member about 2008.

Other Interests

Since childhood, I've always been very interested in all kinds of science and technology, more specifically air and space technology and astronomy. This interest also strongly influenced my reading habits.

Almost as long, I've been enjoying photography.

In 2003, I got my driving license for the motorbike, and enjoy touring whenever weather and family permit.

Family

As of 2006, I found my soulmate, which became the mother of my three children (1 girl, 2 boys). We married in 2013 in the same ceremony as the christening of our youngest.

AAL

Early 2012, I finally bit the bullet which was my interest in astronomy, and went to have a look at AAL's activities. I got my first telescope, and from there developed a keen interest in amateur astrophotography. Weather permitting, I try to improve my technique. As of 2020-02-29, I became a member of the committee.
On 2021-10-23, I was honoured to give the first post-COVID lockdown presentation for AAL, "Starting out with astrophotography".
On 2023-07-15, I gave a presentation on the subject of h-alpha solar photography using minimal means.
