I've been using Pan, KNode, Mozilla (Mail & Newsgroups, from the suite),
slrn (guess an ncurses-style GUI doesn't count?).
For mass-downloads from binary newsgroups, there are also specialized
usenet clients, if you're into that.
Depending on context, groups.google.com may be interesting.

In case you want to download stuff and then browse offline, possibly
with filtering, you may want to look at leafnode.

Search freshmeat.net for "usenet", there's tons of interesting apps
there... fun names too ;-)
