We are using this very kernel version on lots of hosts, and no such 
problems to report. Sorry.
Does the light of your CDRom drive blinks ? Does it start to read the CD 
? Does it close if it is open when you enter the mount command ?
Do you have autofs or other automatic services that interacts ? Is it 
only a CDReader or also a writer ?
Do you use ide_scsi module ?
