... and the TI ACX100 chipset, used in those 22Mbit/s cards.
Try to stay away from those, even if by now there's a FOSS driver
available at http://acx100.sourceforge.net/ - because it's
x86-only and certainly because of the extremely stupid politics
of TI in this matter.

Where did you get the "soon" from? There's been talk about this
for ages, but the *ç%&/ thing still isn't available, and AFAIK
Intel didn't say anything about a date when it should become
available. Oh well, now that 11 Mbit/s WiFi is almost dead,
they won't see a "need to keep it secret" any more.
Yes, you can use the commercial Linuxant thing, or the free
ndisloader, along with the Windows drivers, but that's a kludge.
